Sanlé Sory

West African artist Sanlé Sory has exhibited his photographs publicly only since 1998, with his first solo presentations in Morocco, Burkina Faso and the United Kingdom in 2016-2017. Sory lives in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.

The artist’s first exhibits in the United States are both in April of 2018, at the Yossi Milo Gallery in New York City on April 28th and at the Art Institute of Chicago , Volta Photo: Starring Sanlé Sory and the Good People of Bobo-Dioulasso in the Small but Musically Mighty African Country of Burkina Faso on April 27th, with an accompanying catalog by Steidl Verlag.

Sory’s first gallery exhibition in the United States will open on April 19th. The artist will be present at a special reception at the gallery on Saturday, April 28th, from 5:00-7:30pm.

In the past year, photographs by Sory have been acquired for the permanent collections of the Minneapolis Institute of Art; Art Institute of Chicago; North Carolina Museum of Art; RISD Museum and the Tang Museum at Skidmore College.
