John Kasich would rather call into CNN before speaking to his supporters.

On the biggest night of Kasich’s presidential campaign, as media outlets started projecting a Kasich victory in his home state, the Republican governor of Ohio decided to call Wolf Blitzer before speaking in person to his gathered supporters.

“I’m so appreciative of the people of Ohio,” Kasich told Blitzer. “This is the little engine that can.” 

Meanwhile, at Kasich’s election night party in Berea, his supporters watched themselves watching Kasich speak to Blitzer on CNN, a mise en abyme that perfectly captures the endless cycle of election night coverage.
