What Slate Missed: 5 Other Reasons College Women Shouldn’t Get Drunk

Emily Yoffe has managed to outrage everyone on Twitter this morning despite having written nothing about our infuriating Congress. Instead, she #slatepitched her case that college women should stop getting drunk because it increases the likelihood of being raped, writing that “a misplaced fear of blaming the victim has made it somehow unacceptable to warn inexperienced young women that when they get wasted, they are putting themselves in potential peril.”

It is a rather long article, by the end of which Yoffe has nearly dug her way to China. The Atlantic Wire pointed out that there is only one common factor in the rape of college women: rapists. To wit, Ann Friedman took passages verbatim from Yoffe's piece and simply replaced “women” with “men.”

But this does not necessarily mean that college women shouldn’t get wasted! Here are five other reasons why:

1. Drunk driving

2. Breast cancer

3. Brain damage

4. Babies

5. Facebook

After all, there is only one common factor in the drunkenness of college women: alcohol.
